Pediatric Nursing Welcomes New Editor
We are pleased to announce that Judy A.
Rollins, PhD, RN, has
accepted the position
of Editor of Pediatric Nursing journal.
Dr. Rollins has served on the Editorial
Board of Pediatric Nursing since 1988,
taking on the role of Associate Editor
of the journal from 1992 through July
31, 2010.
Dr. Rollins is President, Rollins &
Associates, Inc., based in Washington,
DC, where she is also researcher and
consultant. In addition, she is adjunct
assistant professor in the Department
of Family Medicine, with a secondary
appointment in the Department of
Pediatrics at Georgetown University
School of Medicine, Washington, DC.
She holds a Certificate in Evaluation
Practice from The Evaluators' Institute, George Washington University,
Washington, DC, and serves as program
evaluator for local and national
organizations. Further, Dr. Rollins has
coordinated arts programming for
Wounded Warriors at Walter Reed
Army Medical Center and has served
on the Wellness Committee for the
National Intrepid Center of Excellence, an advanced facility dedicated
to research, diagnosis, and treatment
of military personnel and veterans
suffering from traumatic brain
injury and psychological health
issues.
Also a visual artist, Dr. Rollins
founded and coordinates the Studio G
artists-in-residence program in pediatrics
at Georgetown, and developed
and teaches "Arts for Children in
Hospitals," a course for first-year medical
students at Georgetown. She also
developed and teaches the course
"Artists in Hospitals" at Montgomery
College, Silver Spring, MD, to introduce
artists to working in health care
settings.
Formerly, as Director of Research
and Program Development at WVSA
Arts Connection, Dr. Rollins developed
"ART is the heART," an arts program
for children and families in hospice
care. In addition to her role with
Pediatric Nursing, she is also the North
America Regional Editor for the
Society for the Arts in Healthcare's Arts
& Health: An International Journal for
Research, Policy, and Practice, and she
has authored nearly 100 publications.
Dr. Rollins has received book of the
year awards from the American Journal
of Nursing and Pediatric Nursing, and
she is the recipient of the International Society of Nurses Cancer
Care Research Award, Johnson &
Johnson/Society for the Arts in
Healthcare Partnership to Promote
Arts and Healing Award, National
Science Foundation Scholarship, and
The Japan Foundation Center for
Global Partnership Travel Award. She
was inducted into the Sigma Theta
Tau International Honor Society of
Nursing in September 2007.

Dr. Rollins received her RN diploma
at Washington Hospital Center
School of Nursing, Washington, DC;
her bachelor's degree in fine arts from
the University of Tulsa, Tulsa,
Oklahoma; her Masters degree in child
development/family studies from
Oklahoma State University, Stillwater,
Oklahoma; and her doctorate in
health and community studies from
DeMontfort University, Leicester,
England.
As an international consultant,
writer, and researcher on children's
issues, with a special interest in the
psychosocial needs of children and
families in health care settings and
the use of the arts in research, Dr.
Rollins strives to allow children's voices
to be heard.
